because i can !! turbo my vfr vtech

« on: August 15, 2009, 03:57:44 AM »

I am in the process of turboing my 02 honda vfr vtech, "WHY" its good to be different and because i can.
I have done most of the theory, built the plenum and in the process of re designing the exhaust, i currently have a T2 a/r 48 turbo unit, i know this is smaller than the units the busa guys run but it is still a bit big physically due to engine configuration (V4) and lack of space. does any body have any suggestion on a particular model turbo, i have wondered around many scrapyards and not seen anything small enough. i am looking for around 160 bhp 6 psi boost, stock engine (no mods). as standard the injection system is same as CBR1000RR so no need to change injectors etc. i have PC3 so fueling should be ok. Do you all use an intercooler ?. the bike is a street bike and i want to ride round town but have fun on the back roads so boost from 4 - 4.5k  before the 6.8k vtech kick in.
are there likely to be issues with handleing ?, busa is similar in weight do you do any mods steering damper etc. any other advise much apreciated. Colin.

Shit...I accidently deletes my post...

T2 is about as small as it gets for availability. A Garret T12, T15, or T17  or small kkk may work, but hard to find. Most modern small turbo cars have the turbine housing cast into the exhaust manifold

You may need to upgrade your fuel pump as it may not flow enough at +6 psi. The VFR has a 1:1 regulator already, again, may not be capable of positive pressure.

I have an '03 and after looking at it, all i can say it good luck fitting everything in there. 4 exhausts and a V configuration...

Intercooler would be beneficial for a pump gas application, although at 6psi it may not be quite as necessary as higher boost.

Gonna be a tight fit...good luck.
