Hey all, I have been reading up on what you've been doing here with the plug-and-play standalone solution for these bike's and its really exciting. I think this is a much needed thing in the bike world - it seems so far behind a lot of the car world with all the FMUs and piggybacks, its good to see you guys getting this done.
I am new to bikes, but seasoned in the world of EFI tuning, standalones, etc. so I thought I'd make a post to say hello and show my support for this project. Developing a plug-and-play standalone engine management for these bikes is a great idea, particularly an affordable on in this price range... not everyone can or wants to pony up for a motec, pectel, etc, but the standalone is much needed to get rid of all these piggyback/ghetto solutions.
Anyway, as I said I'm newer to bikes, but not to engines or tuning. I decided I want to build a hayabusa street/drag bike project, so I got my old Autronic SM4 standalone running on my 2005 using the stock crank and cam sensors with the stock 24-1 wheel. Runs like a champ :) I did it with an adapter harness, so its plug and play as well. I left all the OEM wiring intact, except I replaced the stock cam and crank wires with a shielded wire and grounded the shielding to the sensor ground pin. Swapped it IAT sensor out for the autronic standard one and I'm using the stock sensors everywhere else on the bike. So, its another option that's out there. I tuned it on a dyno dynamics load bearing dyno, which allows me to tune each cell that's reasonably reachable. Meaning, hold the throttle, hit any cells on the map I want to and the dyno simulates the load to keep it at the speed I want but no faster, while providing real-time torque, a/f, etc. data to tune against. It really "wakes up" engines in partial throttle, etc. tuning this way - much better than just tuning full-throttle only on the dyno. the driveability of the bike is definitely improved over stock, and this is with 4 1000cc primary injectors and no secondaries, bosch 044 pump :)
If there's anything I can contribute here let me know and I'll answer and questions I can or help if possible. way to go on the megasquirt, ESPECIALLY with the stock dash ect gauge intact! I'm eagerly watching this, let me know if I can help with anything.
I'm curious how you have decided to control the mapping with the ITBs and a turbo setup on the megaquirt? On the autronic, I run the fuel table off of tps and rpm, but it applies the ideal gas law using the map sensor (meaning, the fuel table goed form 0 to 100 tps, but applies more fuel per more boost automatically per Ideal Gas Law). The ignition map is done off of map versus rpm. Are you blending alpha-n with speed density?
