2000 ZX12R turbo in work

« on: May 31, 2010, 09:21:05 PM »

First off let me begin by saying hi to everybody.I just found this forum a couple days ago and joined it immediately. It looks to be quite an awesome site.

I'm building a project ZX12.It's a 2000 model with the 16 bit ecu.I've already fabbed the turbo plumbing and the other hard parts with it.That's the easy part for me.I'm in need of some help and guidance from you guys.I'm gonna need to do the extra injectors plus the injector driver set up.I'm thinking the megasquirt or the microsquirt will be the way to go for me.I don't know which one yet.I want to use my existing ECU to drive all the normal stuff and I want the Mega or Micro-suirt to run the piggyback injectors.

Here's my questions:

Which one will be better for this application, the mega or the micro?
Fuel system upgrades?I plan on the bike being capable of 16-17 boost psi and I want to be able to feed it at that level.
Ignition timing? Can I retard the timing with an adjustable ignition advancer on the crank and will that be enough? Or do I need to piggyback into the computer to retard the timing?

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Mike

I will when I get home in the morning.I work nights and 12 hour shifts so it's hard to squeeze in things like that during my work week.

If all you want is for the add-on ECU to run the extra injectors, either will do it fine.  The only advantage the Micro will have is that it is a little smaller.  If you want to run a stand-alone, then that would be a different matter with the micro having an advantage IMHO.  Personally, for what you want... I'd save the bucks and go with the megasquirt.  There's good help available around here as well as other things. LOL
