Having a little problem today.  While doing some datalogging my bike started breaking up right around 6 or 7k.  I was doing some pulls on the street in 4th gear trying to get to redline.  Bike would begin to stumble a bit.  I turned around and headed home to investigate.  Got home,I went inside, came back to the bike and it wouldn't start. Huh?  I noticed the pump wasn't priming so I cycled the ignition a few times and it finally primed and started.  While  I was there checked what little logging I had set up a new map that was a little richer thinking it was just breaking up because of the map.

I proceeded back out to try again and got the same result, bike just broke up.  So I turned around and while coming to a stop the bike died.  So I proped up my tank because I couldn't hear my fuel pump priming.  I was looking for any loose connections that may have been causing this but couldn't find any.    I cycled the ignition a few times then the pump decided to work?Huh??  I checked what logging I had when I arrived home and it was pretty lean.  Not terrible but that can be corrected with the map.

I've never experienced this with my bike before.  The pump I'm using is the same one I got with my stage one kit.  It's a bosch pump, not the 044 but a smaller version.  I did ride home fine and it accelerates ok until you get to 6-7k.  Any ideas, could the pump just be old?  It's about 4.5 years old.  I also checked my hose routing but that hasn't really changed since I've had my bike back together.

In a possibly unrelated issue while riding home I noticed my damn speedo wasn't working, well kind of, it was bouncing around a bit.  Anyway if anyone has any ideas let me know.  I think I'm probably due for a new pump?

Well I took the bike for a bit yesterday and it ran fine, which is great but I don't understand what might have caused this.  I did recently paint my bike and it no longer has the reflective insulation under the tank, could that cause this condition?  My fuel pump has always been uncovered, what is the reason behing this?

FWIW I had a persistent break up @ full throttle and tried everything I could think of to solve it. It ended up being a bad rectifier. Tested good on a meter, but was evidently struggling under a heavy load. Put a different one on and the problem vanished. These bikes are finicky bitches sometimes....

Yeah, I'm stumped man.  I thought all was good because I had it out and it worked ok one night.... then it started up again.

I did notice that the fuel pump relay is the same part as a relay up near the fuse box.  Anyone know what this other relay controls.  Maybe I can switch it out temporarily to eliminate that as a bad part.

Still haven't figured out why my speedo isn't working either.  Shit is pissin me off.

Well, I found out what the problem was.  It was me I'm an idiot. joker  Joking aside I was my chain being to loose.  What happened is it jumped the sprocket and slammed into my billet sprocket cover there by making contact with the speedo rotor on the output shaft.  So the power loss wasn't from any electical or vapor lock problem, just a noobish mistake.  Man I'm luck, if that billet cover wasn't there I would have lost the cover and possibly more.  I'm actually suprised I didn't bust any of the attachment points on the case.  Huh?
I've never had this problem before, I've had my chains pretty loose before and never had it jump teeth.    Matter of fact this is a brand new sprocket and chain on the bike.  I had previously used a ek zvx2 with excellent results and went to a ek zzz because of the higher tensile strength.

Has anyone else had thier chain jump teeth?

Glad you solved it.
I use an EK zzz also, have had zero problems with it and I launched the bike @ 6700 rpm n threw the clutch. I weigh close to 3 bills in gear...have broken a couple teeth on the rear vortex aluminum sprocket (44t) but never skipped or hurt the front 16t vortex
