i switched out the 43 tooth rear for a 40 tooth last night, since i have been running the 43 for about 2k miles would that stretch the chain more to where the 40 would not fit right, also have the 16t up front.
with 4k on the chain it shouldnt need replacing should it ? or should i with the turbo ? if so what do youll recomended to use ? its a slow go and im trying to get it right.

i personally like the ek drz2 non oring chain
but the ek ZZZ is a good oring chain

4 k should be fine on chain if its a strong durrable chain
i think you should go to a 17 up froint at the minimum if not an 18 (thats what i used to run)

if you put the 40 on youll have to have some adjustment towards the back due to size difference in the sprockets itll slide back a bit more
but the 17 would slide it up just a hair from that

I agree if you have the room use a bigger front sprocket.Im using a 18 up front. Also have the ZZZ chain and it seems to hold up pretty good for the abuse I give it. thumbs  up

LOL. Yes. Also a 1397 behind that. trying to pick a good set up now. I have a 40 & was told to go back to the stock 17 or just stay with the 16. the 16/40 is like a 17/43 I was told. The 16 acts like you added 3 more to the rear right?

18/40 = 2.22:1
17/40 = 2.35:1
16/40 = 2.5:1
18/45 = 2.5:1
19/48 = 2.53:1
17/43 = 2.53:1
18/46 = 2.56:1
16/42 = 2.63:1
16/43 = 2.69:1
16/47 = 2.94:1

I would never use anything smaller than a 17 countershaft for any turbo bike. If you are racing, I wouldn't use anything smaller than an 18, preferably a 19.

Chain tension is lower with larger sprockets for a given applied torque. Larger sprockets wear the chain less, wear the sprockets less, and can be beneficial with suspension geometry by transferring more weight to the rear wheel during launch.

I think I want to get a 17 now or even a 18 for the front & stick with the 40 I have for the back. LOL

let me know if i can help you out with a chain and sprockets. i run driven racing sprockets on everything i build. the do aluminum and steel sprockets. the aluminum comes in a ton of colors and the steel rears are available in a black hardcoating..the fronts are black hardcoated as well
